“The social services which welcomes teenagers in our county of Morbihan “Le service d’Accueil d’Adolescents and les Services d’Accueil Familial de la Sauvegarde 56”are in charge of 300 teenagers, boys and girls.
Some enjoy continuous educational support at home and others get a daily educational support, when some others we welcome are moved away from their family by court order when necessary.
Amongst countless teenagers we meet every year, many of them don’t manage to take advantage of the usual answers we offer them to face their problems.
That’s why we have to think over new ways to support them, more adapted to the ones who feel a need to get a break with their daily routine.
Meeting Jakki Cunningham has been a great opportunity for us. Because she had already lived that rich , social, educational, and human experience in 2005 and because of her personality , her ability to federate energies around her ,that made us think we could join her and her association SLL to have some teenagers of Morbihan live that experience.
What can we say about this journey today?
The young British adults and the French teenagers have been great. They’ll come out of it stronger, changed and their standing certainly increased by their commitment and their perseverance during these five months.
For as a matter of fact, they had to accept and stand very difficult living conditions because of a very bad weather .They also had to accept to live together, and make efforts to get on with each other.
The adults, professionals or volunteers, put a lot of efforts into this project, through their total and daily support towards the young .Conflicts, misunderstanding sometimes spoilt their relationship but could it be otherwise knowing we were gambling on the union of two cultures?
Beyond all the practical, financial sides, the budget, the daily organisation, I think these are those strong values that conveys Sète Lorient Londres which guaranteed the achievement of this project:
. The social, human values through their gift of horses to handicapped people.
. The therapeutic aspect through the relationship between the men and their horses.
. The notions of travelling, passage and itinerance.
. The notions of effort, perseverance and in some way of self-denial.
Here again I send you my congratulations and admiration.
I think this journey will have a great impact on your life.” Discours of Jean Louis CARTRON
